There is one important timing rule to know before you visit. Wait times for vital records updates may be up to an hour or more. Applications requiring updates must be submitted prior to 3:00 PM daily at either the Covington or Slidell office. If you arrive close to closing time, staff may not be able to complete your request that day.

22nd Judicial District Court

The 22nd Judicial District Court covers both St. Tammany and Washington Parishes. Within St. Tammany, family law cases including divorce, child custody, child support, and adoption are handled by Division K (Judge Mary Devereux) and Division L (Judge Dawn Amacker). Both divisions have jurisdiction over the full range of domestic matters.

Louisiana Civil Code Article 102 requires a 180-day separation period when minor children are involved, extended to 365 days. Article 103 allows immediate divorce if the spouses are already living separately and have met the required period.

You have three main ways to get records: in person, by mail, or online. Each has trade-offs in speed and cost.

In Person

Visit either the Covington or Slidell location. Bring the full names of both parties and the approximate date of the divorce. Staff can locate the case and provide certified copies while you wait, subject to the 3:00 PM submission deadline noted above. Pay the copy fee at the clerk's window.

By Mail

Send a written request to P.O. Box 1090, Covington, LA 70434. Include the names of both parties, the approximate year of divorce, your contact information, and a check or money order for the copy fee. Call (985) 809-8700 first to confirm the current fee before mailing payment.

Online

Louisiana Public Records Law
